TODAY marks another milestone in Malaysian motorsports for the future of the sport and the nation. Mofaz Fortec was officially and simultaneously launched in fine style in Kuala Lumpur and Daventry, in the UK. The World Series by Renault outfit is wholly owned by Malaysian businessman Hj Mohamed Fauzy Abdul Hamid under his company Mofaz Group.

Fortec is no stranger to world of single-seater having produced champions at all levels including ex-Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya of Colombia and current F1 Finnish sensation Heikki Kovalainen, who is the partner to reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton at McLaren. “This is a historical day for Malaysian motorsports and it is an honour for Mofaz to be part of it,” said Fauzy, who is raring to run a winning team.

For the upcoming season, the team has already signed Estonian Sten Pentus who is strongly backed by his nation’s Governmental programme under Visit Estonia. Slated to take the remaining seat in the car is Malaysian driver Fairuz Fauzy who is yet to be confirmed. The professionalism of the team also does not stop there. Although, this is Fauzy’s first season as team principal, he has set a target of winning the championship in his debut year. And to ensure his target is achieved, Kuala Lumpur will be the base of the team’s non- technical related matters. The administration of the team including the designing, logistics and other non-technical related work will be done from Malaysia. However, the cars will be based in Daventry.

“Besides being a world class player in the motorsports world, Mofaz Fortec will also be grooming the future drivers of the country.” “With this opportunity, budding Malaysians and Asian drivers will provide bridge in the culture difference if they are looking for further races to the European circuit. “Such matters like halal food and other Asian culture needs are usually taken for granted. Asian drivers need to be made adaptable in European environment if one decides to make a career in this sport. Countries like Indonesia and China are looking into ways of producing a Formula 1 driver and hopefully Mofaz Fortec will have what they are looking for,” added Fauzy.

The season will see nine stops in eight different European nations with a total of 17 races. And for the first time in the history of the sport, all races will be aired live on Eurosport (Channel 814 on Astro). With such an opportunity and besides achieving the sporting targets, Fauzy in particular believes Mofaz Fortec is an unconventional medium for Malaysian companies to showcase and breakthrough the international market.

During each weekend, World Series by Renault practices Business-2-Business (B2B) markets in which there would be opportunities to promote Malaysian products to the world. Among the first strategic partnership to jump on the bandwagon is Dongguan Qiaoyu Trading Company, a Chinese corporation from the Dongguan province which owns more than 3,000 coffee shop outlets all over the China.

The company is keen in using the platform to promote it’s vast growing motorsports scene with the close association with the team and especially the Macho branding in which will be the car’s colours. “We are excited to be working with Mofoz Fortec and to brand with the team. Being in the first stage of building a relationship, we hope we will be able to responsible of producing China’s first F1 driver through the World Series by Renault,” said CEO Chen Jian Guang.

Meanwhile, also present at the launch was Sepang International Circuit chairman Datuk Mokhzani Mahathir, Automobile Association of Malaysia chairman Tunku Mudzaffar Tunku Mustapha, Motorsports Commission of Malaysia chairman Datuk Azman Yahya and Fortec team boss Richard Dutton. “This is clearly an auspicious occasion for Malaysian motorsports. Hopefully, we will be able to produce more drivers in the future and capitalize on the opportunity,” said Mokhzani. “Being a F1 circuit SIC is also hopeful to host world class races and the World Series by Renault could be a possibility thanks to today’s launch of Mofaz Fortec,” he added.

MOFAZ synonym to Malaysian Motorsports has once again put the country on the world map with its latest venture and one step closer to reach the pinnacle of racing, the Formula 1.

The Malaysian car company, also versatile in other businesses, is now the owner of British based World Series by Renault outfit, Fortec. The team now called, Mofaz Fortec, is truly the only fully owned Malaysian outfit in a world class single-seater series.

As the team’s main objectives remains to win races, it will also focus on other areas including producing more Malaysian world class drivers and help local made products penetrate into the international market.

The deal which the amount is undisclosed, was signed late last year between both parties in which sees Mofaz as the major stake holder and team owners. As for the race team, Mofaz president Hj Mohamad Fauzy Abdul Hamid will be team principal, with Fortec’s Richard Dutton being team boss while the other technical members will remain.

However, Mofaz will be an active partner as all planning, logistics, designing and other off track work are done from Kuala Lumpur at it’s headquarters.

Although Fauzy’s son Fairuz, is currently the obvious choice to race for the team, Mofaz Fortec remains professional about its policy on choosing it’s pilots. Fairuz has yet to secure a sponsorship for his seat but the team however has signed Estonian racing prodigy Sten Pentus.
